The Process

Five Steps to Flight Ready

From first conversation to aircraft in your hangar — APM makes the leasing process straightforward and transparent at every stage.

01

Inquiry & Needs Assessment

Fill out the Lease Request form or call us directly. We'll discuss your fleet needs, training volume, desired aircraft type, and timeline to understand what you're looking for.

01
02

Aircraft Sourcing

APM leverages its nationwide network to locate the right aircraft for your school. Chris, our IA A&P and former DPE, vets every aircraft personally before it goes into the program.

02
03

Refurbishment & Annual

Every APM aircraft arrives with a fresh annual inspection completed. Paint, interior, and avionics are addressed as needed before delivery — at APM's cost.

03
04

Lease Agreement & Deposit

We finalize the lease terms together. A 40-hour deposit is collected at signing. Billing is based on Hobbs meter hours, with usage reports due by the 10th of each month.

04
05

Delivery & Ongoing Support

Aircraft is delivered to your airport. APM remains your partner throughout — handling major expenses and staying accessible for any questions or issues that arise during the term.

Week 1

You Tell Us What You Need

The process starts with a conversation — not a sales pitch. Call (805) 757-6376, email bill@avproman.com, or fill out the Lease Request form. Tell us the aircraft type, your estimated monthly hours, your airport, and any special requirements such as cold-weather equipment or specific avionics. The more specific you can be, the faster we can source the right aircraft.

02
Weeks 1–4

We Source and Vet the Aircraft

APM taps its network of aircraft owners, dealers, and partners across the country to locate the right match. Every candidate goes through a thorough mechanical review by Chris Fitch — our co-founder, IA A&P, and former Designated Pilot Examiner. We're looking at logbooks, airframe history, engine time, avionics status, and overall airworthiness. You never receive an aircraft that hasn't been fully evaluated.

03
Weeks 2–6

Refurbishment, Annual, Delivery Prep

Before any aircraft enters an APM lease, it receives a fresh annual inspection — paid for by APM. Paint, interior condition, and avionics upgrades are negotiated as part of the overall lease agreement. APM coordinates all pre-delivery maintenance so the aircraft arrives at your school flight-ready, with documentation in order.

04
At Signing

Lease Agreement and 40-Hour Deposit

Once both parties are aligned on terms, we execute the lease agreement. The lessee provides a deposit equal to 40 hours at the agreed rate — this is held and applied per the terms of the agreement. The lease minimum is one year with a 40-hour monthly hour commitment. High-volume operators flying 80 or more hours per month may negotiate adjusted rates. Billing is based on Hobbs meter readings, with reports submitted by the 10th of each following month.

05
Ongoing

Partnership Throughout the Term

APM doesn't disappear after delivery. Bill and Chris remain accessible throughout the lease. When engine overhaul time comes, APM covers it. When it's time to repaint or update the interior, APM handles it based on the performance of the lease. You focus on operating a great flight school — we handle the major ownership costs and stay in your corner.

Key Terms

Lease Terms at a Glance

APM's lease structure is designed to be straightforward — fixed commitments, clear billing, and no surprises on the major costs.

Minimum Lease Term
1 Year

All APM leases carry a minimum 12-month term. This provides the stability needed for both parties to invest in the relationship.

Lessees commit to a minimum of 40 Hobbs hours per month. Schools flying 80+ hours/month may negotiate adjusted per-hour rates.

Deposit at Signing
40-hr

A deposit equal to 40 hours at the agreed rate is collected at lease signing. Applied per terms of the agreement.

Billing Method
Hobbs Meter

All billing is based on actual Hobbs meter hours — transparent and verifiable. No flat monthly fees that penalize slow periods.

Reporting Deadline
10th

Monthly usage reports are due by the 10th of the following month. APM invoices based on submitted Hobbs readings.

Why This Structure Works

Flight schools operate on tight margins. By covering engine overhauls, prop overhauls, paint, interior, financing, and property tax, APM eliminates the unpredictable major costs that can derail a school's cash flow. What you pay for — insurance, fuel, tie-down, and routine maintenance — are variable costs you already manage every day. The result is a lease structure that lets you model your costs accurately and invest in growing your student base instead of worrying about what happens when an engine approaches TBO.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to what flight school operators ask most often before starting a lease with APM.

All APM leases have a minimum term of one year (12 months). This gives both parties a stable foundation — APM makes significant upfront investment in sourcing, refurbishing, and delivering the aircraft, and the annual commitment ensures that investment is worthwhile for both sides. Renewals are common and terms can evolve based on the performance of the relationship.
Billing is based on actual Hobbs meter hours. At the end of each month, the lessee submits a usage report by the 10th of the following month showing the Hobbs reading. APM invoices based on that report. The agreed per-hour rate is applied to the actual hours flown, subject to the 40-hour monthly minimum. This keeps things transparent and verifiable.
APM pays for engine overhauls. This is one of the most important elements of the APM lease structure. When an engine approaches time before overhaul (TBO), APM coordinates and covers the cost of the overhaul. The lessee is not responsible for this expense. The same applies to propeller overhauls. This eliminates one of the largest unpredictable costs of aircraft ownership for flight schools.
The lessee (flight school) is responsible for aviation insurance on the aircraft. This is standard practice in aircraft leasing and ensures the school carries appropriate coverage for their specific operation, number of students, and instructor qualifications. APM can provide guidance on typical coverage requirements if needed.
Yes — paint, interior, and avionics upgrades are negotiable as part of the lease agreement. High-performing lessees flying consistent volume often have more leverage to negotiate upgrades. APM views these conversations as part of the ongoing partnership. If your school wants specific avionics or a fresh paint scheme that aligns with your brand, bring it up during initial discussions — these things can often be worked in.
Absolutely. Schools flying 80 or more hours per month can negotiate adjusted per-hour rates. High utilization is good for both parties — the aircraft is generating revenue efficiently and the school benefits from a lower per-hour cost. Contact us with your estimated monthly volume and we'll structure terms accordingly.
Timelines vary depending on aircraft type, availability in the market, and required pre-delivery work. A typical timeline from initial inquiry to delivery runs four to eight weeks, though this can be shorter for in-stock aircraft that require minimal prep, or longer for specific configurations or higher-demand types. APM will give you an honest timeline estimate during the initial conversation — not an optimistic sales projection.
At the end of the lease term, the lessee is responsible for returning the aircraft to APM. The aircraft should be in the same condition it was received (normal wear and tear expected). Many lessees choose to renew — particularly if the aircraft has been performing well and the school's fleet needs remain the same. APM is happy to discuss renewal terms well before the lease expires.
APM works with both established operations and newer flight schools. We evaluate each opportunity on its own merits — operational history, instructors on staff, Part 141 or Part 61 status, and the school's realistic ability to meet the monthly hour minimum. We've helped schools at various stages of their growth. If you're early-stage, be upfront with us — we'd rather have an honest conversation than waste anyone's time.
The fastest way to get started is to fill out the Lease Request form on the Contact page — it takes about two minutes and gives us the information we need to have a productive first conversation. You can also call Bill directly at (805) 757-6376 or email bill@avproman.com. We respond to all serious inquiries promptly.
